What is a fine art print?
Fine art prints are created with the highest quality archival inks and archival paper, meaning that they will last a lifetime. When looked after properly, they will last for over one hundred years. All of my prints are fine art prints, perfect for handing down to the next generation. A fine art print is a piece of art that you can treasure forever.
What is a limited edition print?
A limited edition print is a fine art print that will only ever be printed a certain number of times. Once the edition sells out, that is it, no more will be printed ever again. My limited edition prints are limited to 20 editions per size. Each limited edition print comes with a numbered authenticity certificate (eg. 1/20, 2/20, 3/20) so you can see which edition your limited edition print is. The beauty of having a limited edition print is that it is special and unique, as only a very small number of them will exist in the world.
What is an open edition print?
My Wildflower prints are open edition fine art prints. My open edition prints are the same beautiful quality as my limited edition prints, but they have no limit on the amount of times they can be printed. This means that they are a more affordable option, yet still exceptional quality.
What is the difference between cotton rag paper and canvas?
The biggest difference between cotton rag paper and canvas is the way they are framed! Prints on cotton rag paper will require framing with glass, whereas prints on canvas are intended to be stretched and framed with no glass. Both options are beautiful (and archival), so it really just depends on the look you are after. See examples of framing here.
Do you do custom sizes?
Yes I can do custom sizes! I can even go super large too! If you are after a custom size don’t hesitate to contact me.
What do I do with my unframed print when it arrives?
I know it is tempting as soon as you get your beautiful print to take it out of the cylinder and unwrap it…but fine art prints can be marked very very easily so it is best to leave it to your professional framer to handle. Cotton rag paper in particular is a little sensitive, so it is much easier to leave your print in the cylinder and let your professional framer unroll it. Smaller size prints (such as my Wildflower series) can be handled a little more safely at home, especially if you are framing yourself, but you need to be very careful and only handle the prints on the edges.
What style of framing should I use for limited edition prints?
Limited edition prints on canvas are available framed — but they are also available unframed too if you would prefer to get them framed locally to you. (Cotton rag paper prints only come unframed so they require local custom framing).
Please read below for some framing tips, and note that cotton rag paper and canvas require different styles of framing!
COTTON RAG PAPER
Cotton rag paper prints require framing with glass. Standard glass, museum glass and acrylic glass (or any type of glass really) can all be used. Limited edition prints on cotton rag paper come with an extra 1cm white border for handling (as you know they mark very easily so this makes it easier to handle for framers). If you desire the contemporary yet sophisticated look of the art being flush with the frame (edge to edge framing), the framer can easily trim this little white border off. Box framing, where the artwork sits back from the glass, looks beautiful in this edge to edge style where there is no white border.
Alternatively if you desire a frame with matting (a thicker white border) this little border acts as the perfect place to add matting to. I honestly love prints framed edge to edge or with matting, I think either way works, it just depends on the look you are after! As far as the width and colour of the frame, there are so many options you can go with, but I personally love thin, natural wood frames.
CANVAS
Limited edition prints on canvas are intended to be stretched and then shadow box framed, hence they come with 5cm mirrored edges to allow for stretching. So your canvas print will be 5cm bigger on each side - this is a mirror image of the edge of the artwork and this is the part that will be stretched over the edge and then wrapped in a frame. Canvas limited edition prints are designed to be framed with no glass, meaning you don’t have to worry about reflections. Shadow box float frames finish off stretched canvas beautifully. Your local framer will be able to stretch and frame your canvas print. See canvas framing examples here.
The framed print I have chosen says it’s ‘unavailable’?
For limited edition prints, framing is only available for prints on canvas. So if you have selected cotton rag paper and a framing option, this unfortunately isn’t available! Simply change the material to canvas if you are after framing, or if you have your heart set on cotton rag paper, change the framing option to unframed!
What style of framing should I use for Wildflower prints?
Wildflower prints come in smaller sizes and fit into standard size frames, so they are a bit easier to frame and handle yourself at home. Remember to only handle the fine art print by the edges. The Wildflower prints are intended to be framed with the white border that comes with the print (as this white border is included in the final print size). If you are after a thicker white border, they can also be framed with extra matting!
Whilst I recommend custom framing for the quality, I understand that pre-bought frames can be a much more easy option! That is why my Wildflower prints will fit into standard size frames (A4, A3, A2, A1 & A0) that you can find from places such as Officeworks, Spotlight, K-mart, Temple and Webster and Country Road! I love Wildflower prints framed in light, natural wood.
